About a decade ago Kaizer Chiefs football club was ranked as the number 1 sports brand in South Africa. In the wake of their failure to win any silverware for a period spanning 9 years or thereabout, the Amakhosi's status as a brand started to decline. The fact that they also finished outside the top 8 bracket on the log standings several times during that barren spell made things all the more deplorable for the Soweto giants
